Fleet Feet Sports in Aptos

is holding its first ever All Dog Run/Walk Training Program!

The actual Run will be held October 23rd at

The Nisene Mark Redwood State Park.

Training starts every Sunday at 8am and every Wednesday at 7pm to build endurance for both parties.

Cost is $65, and if you would like to register for the race at the same time, the cost is $100. The event fundraises

The Morris Animal Foundation,

and a portion of the training group will be donated as well.

We hope to see you at the Abalonetti Halloween Party and Dog Costume Contest. It is sure to be a Howl-ing good time! Dress up your pup and yourself, if you’d like, and head down to Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey for a great time and even better – to raise money for the dogs (Proceeds will benefit both POMDR and AFRP).

The party takes place on Halloween Day – Sunday October 31 from 1-3 pm at Abalonetti Restaurant on the wharf. (Show your Monterey County Driver License for two hours free parking in the wharf parking lot.)

There will be raffle prizes, contest prizes, dog treats, and people treats as well as “no host” spooky Halloween Drinks!

There is room for 50 dogs on the pet-friendly patio. It’s $10 to enter the costume contest. Categories are – Scariest Dog, Funniest Dog, Best in Show, Best Person/Dog duo. Register your pup for the costume contest on line (You will be directed to the AFRP website to register).

AFRP is excited to announce their first “My Best Friend” Poetry Contest, sponsored by the East Village Coffee Lounge in Monterey, honoring the special relationships between people and their “animal friends”.

The top three poems will be awarded prizes, read at the Annual Holiday Party on December 5th at the Hyatt Regency in Monterey and published in our spring newsletter.

Deadline for submissions is November 15, 2010.

Description
Course is flat to rolling, out-and-back through the Redwoods, on mix of pavement and fire roads. Race is rain or shine. Every entry contributes to our sponsorship of Morris Animal Foundation studies.

Additional Information
We put the WAG in schwag! Entry fee includes a stellar finisher medal, T-shirt, and super doggie bags! Great prizes to top three finishers of 5k and 10k races and top youth (14 and under). Special awards for largest and smallest canine competitors. And we’ve got a post-race expo full of treats for man & his best friends!
